Grants, discounts and interest-free loans: what financial support is available when you renovate?
Mijn VerbouwPremie (my renovation grant)
Anyone who invests in an existing home or apartment can, depending on household income, apply for financial support for investments in energy efficiency (such as roof, wall and floor insulation, high-performance glazing, a solar water heater, a heat pump, a heat-pump boiler and a gas condensing boiler) and for investments in housing quality (electrics and plumbing, interior renovation, windows and doors).
Mijn VerbouwLening (my renovation loan)
Since 1 September 2022 you can apply for a renovation loan of up to 60,000 euros. This loan finances renovations focused on both housing quality and improving energy efficiency. The loan is interest-free (0%), as long as the statutory interest rate stays below 3%. If you buy a home with EPC label E or F (for apartments the definitions depend on the year of purchase), you no longer qualify for this renovation loan from 1 January 2023. If you fall into that category, you can take out an interest-free renovation credit with your lender.
Interest-free renovation credit or interest subsidy
Anyone who buys a home or apartment with poor energy performance and thoroughly renovates it within 5 years can, in addition to the mortgage loan for acquiring the property, also take out a renovation credit with the lender.
